Joseph M. Alvarez

Joseph M. Alvarez is a 23-year veteran of the fire service and a firefighter with the City of Maplewood (NJ) Fire Department. He is also a member of the Wyckoff (NJ) Volunteer Fire Department, and the past chief of the Waldwick (NJ) Volunteer Fire Department. He is a NJ-certified fire instructor, Level 2, and has taught at the Bergen County Fire Academy for the past 17 years. He is also a NJ State EMT-D, NJ fire official and a member of the arson task force. He has been a H.O.T. instructor for FDIC since 1998. He is a coauthor of the "Search and Rescue" chapter of Fire Engineering's Handbook for Firefighter I and II (2009).
