John Lee Cook, Jr.

John Lee Cook, Jr. entered the fire service in 1969 when he was voted in as a member of the Huntsville (TX) Volunteer Fire Dept. Since that time, he has served as a career firefighter, training officer, and college instructor. He served as fire chief and emergency management coordinator in Conroe, Texas, from 1981 to 1987, and in Denton, Texas, from 1987 to 1995.

Cook now serves as the director of the Department of Fire and Rescue Services in Loudoun County, Virginia. Cook has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Sam Houston State University and a master's in public administration from Southwest Texas State University. He is a charter member of the Fire Service Section of the National Fire Protection Association and served on the Technical Committee for Fire Service Training.


He is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the State Fire Chiefs Association of Virginia, and the National Fire Sprinkler Association. He is an associate member of the Institution of Fire Engineers. Cook has published numerous articles in fire service periodicals and is frequently invited to speak to various fire service gatherings. He and his wife, Elizabeth, reside in Leesburg, Virginia.
