Dan Kerrigan

Dan Kerrigan is a 33 year veteran of the fire service and co-author of the best selling book Firefighter Functional Fitness. His tenure includes time in volunteer, combination and career organizations of varying size and complexity, and it includes significant experience in operations, administration, risk reduction, health and wellness, emergency management, research, training, and professional development.

Currently Fire Chief for Upper Providence Township Montgomery County PA, he is also active in a number of organizations including the Southeastern PA Regional Fire Task Force, where he serves as an Operations Deputy Leader for the Chester County Fire Task Force.


Kerrigan earned his graduate degree in Executive Fire Service Leadership from Grand Canyon University. He holds an undergraduate degree in Community and Human Services from Empire State College and is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) through the National Fire Protection Association.

Kerrigan completed his Executive Fire Officer studies at the National Fire Academy in July, 2014. He is an Adjunct Professor at Anna Maria College (MA) and Immaculata University (PA) where he facilitates undergraduate and graduate course in Fire Administration, Emergency Management and Public Policy. He has also developed curriculum for the Emergency Management Program at Immaculata University. As a strong believer of applied fire service research, he is adept at solving difficult organizational challenges.

Kerrigan is a PA State and NFA online Instructor and is qualified to instruct a wide range of fire service and leadership topics. A driven innovator with a proven track record of progressive organizational change, he is passionate about risk reduction in the community as well as in the operational and occupational aspects of the fire service. A strong advocate of firefighter health and wellness, he frequently researches and writes on the subject.
