About the Authors
Billy is an associate/contributing editor of Fire Engineering magazine and a board member and FDIC instructor for more than 30 years. Along with Gordon Graham, he hosts and cosponsors the noncommercial site FireFighterCloseCalls.com, the world’s most-visited website exclusively dedicated to firefighter survival.
Billy Goldfeder, EFO , has been a firefighter since 1973, a chief officer since 1982, and is a deputy chief of the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department (OH). He is an active member of the board of directors of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, the September 11th Families Association, and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.

Frank Leeb (FDNY retired) has had a 31-year career with the Fire Department
of New York, holding senior staff positions such as Chief of the Fire
Academy, Chief of Training, and Chief of Safety. Frank has also been an
East Farmingdale Fire Department member since 1983 (Long Island, NY) and
he is currently the managing director of the First Responder Center for
Excellence (FRCE).
He is a sought-after speaker, having lectured both
nationally and internationally on motivation, preparedness, leadership,
strategy, and tactics, and has served as an advisory panel member for UL
Firefighter Safety Research Institute’s (FSRI) “Study of Coordinated
Attack in Acquired Structures”. Frank is also the author of the
