Tim Olk
Tim Olk took his first fire scene photos when he was 13 years old. He brought the pictures into the fire station, where he met Northbrook Assistant Chief and Fire Investigator Wayne Luecht. He took photography classes and learned how to shoot fire scenes from Luecht. In 1999, Tim lost his mentor and friend when Chief Luecht died of injuries sustained on duty. Eventually, Olk became a paid-on-call firefighter and was certified in advanced fire scene photography by the Fire Investigators Strike Force (FISF), a nonprofit association of fire investigation professionals dedicated to the education of fire investigators.
A photographer for nearly 40 years, Olk was a paid-on-call firefighters for Northbrook Prospect Heights, IL, and Northfield, IL. He is also the photo unit photographer for Boone County, IL, Fire District 2 and Des Plaines, IL, Fire Department. Olk travels all over the greater Chicago area capturing scenes and incidents like the many shared in this book Dozens of his photos have been featured in Fire Engineering and Fire Rescue magazines.
