John (Skip) Coleman
John "Skip" Coleman retired as assistant chief from the Toledo (OH) Department of Fire and Rescue. He is a technical editor of Fire Engineering magazine; a member of the FDIC Educational Advisory Board; and the author of Incident Management for the Street-Smart Fire Officer (1997), Managing Major Fires (2000), Incident Management for the Street-Smart Fire Officer, Second Edition (2008) and Searching Smarter (2011)—all from Fire Engineering Books & Videos. Chief Coleman is the 2011 recipient of the FDIC Tom Brennan Lifetime Achievement Award. Chief Coleman has been an instructor at Owens Community College, one of Ohio's largest community colleges; a contract instructor for the National Fire Academy's Command and Control of Fire Department Operations at Multialarm Incidents course. Also, he has conducted an annual course in incident command for industrial fire brigades at the Ohio State Fire School. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program.
